Intergenerational Pen Pal Club session with Victoria Literacy Connection

June 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Discover the joy of meaningful connection through the timeless art of letter writing. Join Victoria Literacy Connection (VLC) to learn about their free Intergenerational Pen Pal Club, a program that matches people with a pen pal at least 20 years older or younger—creating unexpected friendships and heartfelt exchanges.

Longtime letter writer Leslie Simpson will share stories about the history of letter writing from around the world, along with her own experiences as a dedicated correspondent and Pen Pal Club volunteer. You’ll also hear about VLC’s free services for seniors, including Tech Tutoring, as well as opportunities to volunteer and share your literacy skills with others.

Whether you’re curious about joining the Pen Pal Club, interested in volunteering, or simply love a good story, this session offers a warm and engaging look at connection through the written word.

Speakers:

Marla Ilo has worked with VLC for six years and oversees volunteer intake, the Tech Tutoring program, and the Intergenerational Pen Pal Club. She believes strongly in the power of literacy, connection, and community.

Leslie Simpson has volunteered with the Pen Pal Club management for 3 years and has been an active pen pal in the program for 5 years. A passionate letter writer since childhood, she currently has two pen pals through the Club and brings a lifelong love of the written word to her work.
