SUMMARY:Communication and Aging
DESCRIPTION:Changes in communication can occur as part of aging and may include difficulty finding words\, hearing impairment\, memory-related communication challenges\, or difficulty following conversations. While these changes can be frustrating\, understanding how communication and brain function are connected can help older adults maintain confidence\, independence\, and meaningful social connections. \nJoin registered speech-language pathologist Sue Decker for an interactive session exploring common communication changes associated with aging\, the role of speech-language pathology in supporting communication health\, and practical strategies to help maintain and strengthen communication skills. This educational session will provide insight into how communication works\, when to seek support\, and simple approaches for staying connected and engaged. \nSue Decker\, M.Sc.\, R.SLP\, is a registered speech-language pathologist with more than 30 years of experience supporting adults with speech\, language\, and communication challenges. Her work has focused on helping individuals living with aphasia\, dementia\, and other neurological conditions maintain meaningful connections and participation in everyday life. Sue has also served as a clinical educator\, instructor\, and researcher at the University of Alberta and the University of British Columbia and has contributed to the development of innovative communication care programs across Canada. \nClick here to register. \nHybrid event\, offered both in person and virtually via Zoom.
